Monitoring communications from the PABX

If you are logging calls from your PABX via a serial connection you can use the Communications Monitor to directly monitor the data transmitted from your PABX to the COM port on the logging PC to determine if :

The COM port on the logging PC is operational and receiving data from your PABX

The cable connecting your PABX and logging PC is connected and operational

      The PABX is transmitting data

The communications parameters set in Callista match those in your PABX

1.  Double click the Call Processor icon in the tooltray at the bottom of your screen.

2.  Click Configuration.

3.  Click Communications.

4.  If the data displayed on the Communications Monitor is unrecognisable (this data should be only letters and numbers), one or more of the parameters set for the PABX in Callista in the Configuration window is incorrect.  Click the Configuration button and re-set these parameters.

5.  The lamps displayed on this screen indicate the status of the pins on the logging PC’s COM port.  They will illuminate depending on the type of the cable connecting your PABX and logging PC and on the type of PABX.   Click Pins to display a diagram of the pin outs on the PABX and logging PC and how they connect.

6.  Click Start Trace ONLY under technical supervision from our Help Desk and ONLY if you need an exact record of all the raw call data (including control codes) transmitted by your PABX. When you select this option, Callista will create a file called callp.raw which will be stored on your local C:\ drive.  It will record every signal transmitted by your PABX.  Trace is particularly useful for diagnosing transmission problems with PABXs which output their data in binary format.  To terminate Trace, click Stop Trace.

PLEASE NOTE : Do not activate Trace and leave it active for long periods because it will create a very large file on your hard drive and significantly slow down call processing.
